The two simple secrets to good ideas

Secret #1 is the biggest one: More bad ideas. The more bad ideas the better. If you work really hard on coming up with bad ideas, sooner or later, some good ideas are going to slip through. This is much easier than the opposite approach. Secret #2 is more important: Generosity. It's much easier and more effective to come up with good ideas for someone else. Much easier to bring a posture of insight and care on behalf of someone else. It lets you off the hook, too.

I would go up to old people and talk to them. I’d ask them to tell me about their life. And their opening line was, “I wish.” Every one of them — at parks, bars, airports — all started with what they wish they did differently. They wished they worked harder. They wished they spent more time with their family. They wished they didn’t listen to their Mom and did what they wanted to do. They wished. Spend a day volunteering in an old folk’s home, and you’ll see it yourself. It’s so devastating to me that your life’s choices are being dictated by the opinions of people who you won’t care about when you’re 92 years old. Thanks for reading! The alternative

Hire the right people, walk away from those that aren’t on the journey. Gain enrollment. Model behaviors. Celebrate the right contributions. Develop a culture, a language, a way of being on the path. Commit to the journey. People like us do things like this. Raise the standards, repeat the process.
